By the way, the due date for the twins, is Feb.
4, 1999. But, the doctors say that twins generally arrive 4 weeks early,
so January 4, 1999. But because of the previous problems we have had, it
is quite possible that they will arrive sooner than that (maybe as short
as 30-34 weeks)
We'll have to wait and see. We'll take all the prayers you can deliver,
and all your good wishes and thoughts as well.
A lot is being done this time to maintain and monitor the pregnancy.
We expect to visit the High Risk Pregnancy Unit at Mt. Sinai every 2 weeks.
Plus, on her own, Maureen has had to go through a lot:
-2 injections per day of Fragmin, a low molecular weight Heparin.
These injections began when we first knew she was pregnant (around 5 weeks),
and will continue for the whole pregnancy. Luckily the needles for this
are the small insulin needles, and on the whole don't hurt too much when
given. She and I take turns giving the injection. To counteract the bruising
that was happening in the beginning, she ices the injection site for 15
minutes before and after.
-Up to 2 weeks ago, she was taking 1 baby aspirin each day. This
was reduced to 1 baby aspirin every 2 days, and today, Dr. Laskin indicated
that she could stop, and this would help relieve the itching at the site
of injection.
-Up to today, she has been taking Progesterone suppositories twice
a day, to supplement her own production of Progesterone. She can now discontinue
taking those.
-She takes 1 "Materna" vitamin a day
-Beginning today, she will take 2 calcium supplements a day, to
help reduce the bone loss that the Heparin can cause. |

Similarly,
"Abigail" had to duplicate the pose, just to make it hard to tell them
apart, and showed a right profile. Looking a lot more like a little baby
now, and as indicated above, a lot of activity.
It is quite easy when they are doing the ultra sound to see the
outline of the arms, legs, toes, and even the membrane surrounding the
fetus.
But I have to admit, that I'm not getting much better at reading
the ultra sounds. |
